Secret Surprise Book exchange!

Postby Chanelly on Fri Feb 15, 2008 10:36 am

Alright everyone, let's do a book exchange.

I recently cleaned out my bookshelf after 10 years of collecting. I've signed up with two websites for getting rid of old books but they're not going as fast as I would like. http://www.swaptree.com & http://www.switchplanet.com. So why not do a secret surprise book exchange here instead?

If anyone has an old book they don't want anymore and would like a new book please send me a PM with your name & address. This is pretty much like the Valentine's Day exchange Tophy did only with books. I'm going to assign book exchange partners at random and whatever book the person wants to send you is the book you're gonna get so no taking requests and don't list what books you're giving away because then it won't be a surprise. Try your best to pick something that you think they're like though.

If you don't want to get something randomly that might suck then don't participate. If you trade something new you might get something old and beat up so keep this in mind.

Brillant fucking idea. I think it's a good idea to list books you're getting rid of and what you'd like if possible:

I have a few books I'd like to pass on:

5 Fantasy
1 Collected Eassys on Physics with Hawkings, Kip Thorne, and others w/o math.
1 Al Franken Book

I'm looking for History books, Precalc and Calculus Books, Physics Books, and most Non-fiction.

If you list the books you have and want than it won't be a Secret Surprise Book Exchange. This is supposed to be like Secret Santa with books.

I'll do my best to match the book with my secret...booker. And send them something I think they'd like. But my supplies are limited so I can't make any guarantees.

Then pick something you don't plan to read again. And hey if you end up getting a crap book you've already read then save it and we'll do another book exchange again or you can sign up on Swaptree and get a book you like. I've already swapped 3 books on that site.

Seriously. Knowledge is to be SHARED, and after you read something once if it's an okay book, or a few times if it's an enjoyable one, it's time to pass it on for others to read. AND you'll get something new and neat to read.

Plus the idea is really nifty. So, good job Chanelly!

When I get a paycheck (soon, I hope), consider me in. But, while you're trying to get rid of books, have you considered www.bookmooch.com ?

I should try that site instead of Switchplanet. Switchplanet has alot of people declaring they have books but they aren't willing to trade them. Only problem is I have 83 books I'm giving away and I don't want to look up and enter descriptions on their condition for the 3rd time, lol.

I'm still in.

With bookmooch, though, you can just enter the ISBN number, and it finds the description for you! So easy.

It's the same with the other sites too. I had to enter 83 ISBN numbers and then you have to write a description of the condition the book is in. It took hours to do. *ugh*
