I was planning on hacking at one of my other projects this weekend, but replacing Consumating seems like a fun time as well.

If anyone is experienced with either python or ruby and would like to contribute, please send me a PM.

Alright, due to the fact that I see no reason to ever do LAMP development again, jcn and I have started work on a new consumating in rails. It will be located at http://matematemate.com . I will post more on the forums as we have progress.

Shit, is this completely separate from what Crimson and Stockholm are doing? If so, then that means there will probably be two pretty strong follow-ups to Mother Consu and I'm not sure I could handle being on two at once... and I'd hate to have to choose...

Not that it's not much appreciated. It would just put a lot of us in a strange situation, haha.

there's already been talk of sharing information between them to avoid what is happening with consumating now. so worry not. your data will probably be portable

Oh, and I'm semi proficient in HTML and can assist mildly in developing the replacement as long as it's easy stuff that's just busy work so I can free up the time of people who can do more then I am capable of.

I set this up a number of months ago, before all said drama. It's been spread through word of mouth till now and has 176 members.

Now that our favorite website that has made us so many new friends, e-romances, romances, hook-ups, meetings, flaming, arguing, and making us happy is leaving, it's best to try to organize those who are in facebook, into the group so we can spread word of mouth about tihngs easily enough, and send it to friends who haven't joined facebook yet!!!!

As you all know, I have been working intensely on various fronts to get a replacement for Consumating live for quite some time now. I continue to have an immense passion for this user community, and will not see it die. To date, I have talked at you extensively. Tomorrow morning, the talk ends.

The first beta of There Is Nothing To See Here (tentatively named) is set to be unveiled. Everyone involved in this process ("the niche (ntsh)" as I have affectionally been calling it internally), from the coders to the administrators and other contributors, wants to see the fruits of our labor. We want to see how well it works, what doesn't, and correct it long before the code becomes a frequently non-functional mess. We feel we have enough completed at this point to accomplish the kind of bug testing we need, while still giving you the user a reason to want to try it out in the first place.

Without further ado, I'd like to give you the list of features that will work out of the gate:
1. Conversations work. One at a time, can close them and move on to the next one. Conversation categories are scrapped at the moment as they seem much too constrictive as they currently exist on Consumating.
2. Tagging works. Tag yourself, tag your friends, find people by said tags.
3. Photos. Your account allows you to have a primary photo at the moment. Multiple photo management will be coming soon.
4. Account management works. You can change your nickname, personal details, and so forth as you can now.
5. Questions of the week have been implemented, and we will launch with a few out of the gate.
6. Thumbs work. You can thumb profiles, and question answers.
7. Hotlisting works.

More may work by the time we post it tomorrow morning, but that is what I have been using on the test site and what works right now. What exists now should give you enough to begin playing around, and we will roll out at least one new feature each week. A blog will be kept, linkable from the main page, describing what we intend to release each week.

I hope you will all give the test site a spin (keeping in mind it is a test site of course, tentatively named), and help us grow it into more than just a replacement for Consumating, but a way to evolve the community to a new level.

I look forward to seeing you all promptly at 11 AM EST, 2-20-08, for the beginning.

The website is up and running right now it looks like.
